The Love for a Small Blue Alien

I was asked what my favorite character was for Disney, and I have to say that I had to think about this for a day or two.  I love just about all the characters that Disney has put out, but this small, blue alien has touched my heart in a special way.  Who is this wonderful, crazy, caring, destructive character? Stitch from Lilo and Stitch the movie.  This Disney movie came out in 2002, which was only a year before I started to work at Walt Disney World.  So, when I went to WDW and started working, Stitch was everywhere.  He was one popular, small, blue alien.

Stitch and Lilo

I remember picking up the soundtrack when I was working at WDW, and would listen to it after work.   I enjoyed singing to Elvis and Hawaiian Songs.   I also loved the movie and how this small, blue alien was designed to destroy the world!  Yet he lands up on an island in Hawaii where he can’t go anywhere.  He has to pretend to be a dog for a little girl named Lilo, so he himself doesn’t get taken back to his planet to be destroyed.  He finds himself very close to Lilo and her big sister Nani, and caring about the family he now belongs in.   It’s so wonderful to see the change in him as he goes from a destroyer of worlds to a loving family member.

My favorite part is the end when the aliens come down to take him back, and he asks if he could say one last thing.  Stitch says, ” This is my family.  I found it, all on my own.  Is little, and broken, but still good. Yeah, still good.”

I think of my family, my husband, my stepson, my foster child and me.  We are little broken pieces that have come together to make a family.  Families are all different and special.  Another favorite line was Lilo saying, “Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind.

Family is a part of everyone, no matter where they are or if they have passed away.  I just love the meaning behind this movie.  Stitch really knows how to work his way into the hearts of everyone.  He is such a fun character.  When my husband, and stepson, came with me to WDW  it warmed my heart when I was able to see my stepson hug Stitch at Animal Kingdom.  Then later he told me how he wished he could have Stitch as a pet.  Now we have our first family dog, and guess what?  His name is Stitch.  The funny part is that our Stitch is a lot like Stitch from the movie.  He is cute, and fluffy, yet knows how to get himself into trouble, just like the character Stitch!  But we wouldn’t want him any other way!
