Horror-Themed Virtual Reality – The Repository at HHN26 Universal Orlando

Now THIS is what I’m talking about. The idea alone has me both terrified and excited. Here’s the official announcement:

Tickets are now on sale for Universal Orlando Resort’s new cutting-edge – and terrifying – horror-themed virtual reality experience. The Repository, which blends custom virtual reality technology with real-life characters and environments, will be available to guests during select Halloween Horror Nights events, beginning Sept. 29 and running through Oct. 31.

The Repository is an exclusive, limited-time attraction with an entirely unique storyline that will pave the way for even more brand new, best-in-class experiences across Universal Orlando Resort. Throughout this extended, heart-pounding adventure, guests will explore highly thematic physical environments and interact with real-life characters – all while working in small teams to solve a dark mystery unfolding before them.

Oh, hell yes. That sounds horrifyingly fun! We’re so into the idea of this that we started thinking about the mystery of the game, the name specifically. A “repository” is a place where something, usually a natural resource, is accumulated. It could also be a central location where data or something else is stored. But what? Universal Studios put together a mystery that lies ahead of us and as you read above, it’s a dark one.

This is where the future of gaming is taking us. Just like in movies; when blending real life practical effects with computer technology the result more often than not makes for a more convincing effect. Can you imagine experiencing the blend of what is real and what isn’t in real time as part of the story and not just a viewer? Well, get ready, because it’s here.
